Resident Evil at the box office

22 June 2005 17:27 pm

It’s a puzzling one. Everyone except us Resident Evil fans seems to hate the movie and yet there are another two planned. I will talk a little more about those later. Why did Resident Evil get such bad write-ups and still continue though?

Figures contract though. While everyone is saying it failed miserably it is in the fact the second biggest earner in terms of games to movies, beaten only by the titan that is Tomb Raider.

The critics really did not like the movie though – review after review came in saying why do they even bother making this stuff? I disagree of course, I think the original movie especially (though I’m torn between which one I like more) did a lot as it was one of the first in the zombie genre to provide a decent explanation of what was going on.

No matter how much everyone hates it, there appears to be little stopping it however. The rumour mill is overflowing about a 4th movie with everything from they have the script but haven’t confirmed anything to they are secretly filming it on location on Tokyo as we speak.

Resident Evil 3 itself isn’t out yet, it isn’t even due out until sometime next year. This is planning for the far future. And this type of planning only happens when you know you’re on a winner.
